It is strongly suggested that anyone who is not already proficient in the use of a handgun and who is considering acquiring a Texas Concealed Carry permit complete a basic course before attempting the CHL. The Concealed Handgun class does not teach you to shoot. It is assumed that you are already proficient with a handgun before you apply. It is the student's responsibility to know how to properly handle a handgun before even considering carrying one for self-defense.
