NRA Sanctioned Classes

Course Descriptions

It is strongly suggested that anyone considering acquiring a Texas Concealed Carry permit complete one of our beginning courses before attempting the CHL. The Concealed Handgun class does not teach you to shoot. It is assumed that you are already proficient with a handgun before you apply. It is the student’s responsibility to know how to properly handle a handgun before even considering carrying one for self-defense.

N.R.A. First Step Course

FIRST (Firearm Instruction, Responsibility and Safety Training) STEPS is the latest addition to the NRA’s training programs for new shooters. It provides hands-on orientation to pistol in as little as three hours, including a one-hour shooting session on a range.

N.R.A. Basic Pistol Certification Course

Using the NRA training method of Total Participant Involvement, this 10 hour course, which is split over 2 days, provides hands on learning opportunities in the following areas:
· safe handling of firearms
· firearms parts and operation
· ammunition and its function
· shooting fundamentals and an opportunity to develop them on the range
· how to select, clean and store a firearm
· review of various activities available to help participants develop and improve their shooting skills
Attractive certificates are awarded to participants who successfully complete each basic course.

N.R.A. Home Firearm Safety Course

The purpose of this 4 hour course is to introduce the basic principles of firearm safety, to present the knowledge and skills and explain the attitude necessary for the safe handling and storing of firearms in the home.

N.R.A. Handgun or Bullseye Pistol Qualifications

The NRA Qualification Courses provide the self-paced recreational shooter activities that will help develop their marksmanship skills and reward their achievements. These courses of fire emphasize the development of pistol shooting skills. While some shooters may prefer the course of fire that emphasizes stage skill development, others may prefer the course that stresses aggregate skill development. Both are provided so you can choose the course of fire that’s just right for you. Together, it’s a four-star winning combination of handgun education!

Note: Although the N.R.A. does not require an instructor for these qualification programs, Pistol Prowess offers help in reaching your goals. Call for more information.
